All payment card processing at IU must be approved by the Office of the Treasurer. The role of Payment Card Services is to administer the Payment Card program and to act as facilitator. The University holds a system-wide contract that binds us to using one payment card processor, thereby necessitating a systematic process. University Policy VI-110 uniformly defines the requirements of all parties involved.
The Office of the Treasurer is also pleased to announce that we have 45 departments who now accept web-based payment card transactions. Visit the Web-Based Payments section as well as the university’s e-Business site to learn more.
Indiana University has been accepting payments securely over the Internet for over 2 years. In 2002 Indiana University’s approved web-based payment system processed 52,703 transactions totaling $4,661,493.42 in sales for such items as continuing education, books and journals, as well as conferences and parking permits/fines.
Accepting payments over the Internet must be done in a secure manner. To do this, Indiana University uses VeriSign Payment Systems. Their servers house the credit card information in an encrypted format and will only make it available to authorized people.
