VeriSign and Credit Card Processor
The VeriSign PayFlow Pro server is accessed for real time authorization through its Software Development Kit (SDK). The SDK sends
encrypted data to the banking network for authorization of the credit card transactions. Capture and settlement may occur in two processing modes: immediate or delayed settlement. The settlement method chosen depends on the nature of the merchant’s business and requirements of the credit card processor and bank. IU’s arrangement with its credit card processor ensures that transactional information will be timely reflected in the IU financial system.
Sensitive credit card numbers will never have a need to be stored on IU resources.
VeriSign also provides for administrative tasks after the payment is complete. Merchants gain effective management of their transactions with search functions, reporting capabilities, and return processing. These services are accessed through the VeriSign Manager interface. Access to the VeriSign Manager interface is granted by the Office of the Treasurer, Payment Card Services during a training session.
e-Business Operations, Treasury Operations, Office of the Treasurer
e-Business Operations' responsibilities lie with the banking components of e-Business systems. It is the role of the Treasurer’s office to ensure the security of the university receipts and is responsible for administering the VeriSign system.
e-Business Operations will coordinate setting up a merchant account with our processing bank and setting up an account with VeriSign. E-Business Operations will also provide training both on how credit cards work and on the VeriSign Manager interface. The Office of the Treasurer policies, practices, and fees governing web-based credit card payments will apply.
IU Merchant
IU Merchants are required to create and maintain their own web pages, pricing structure, and shipping information regardless of the implementation option they choose. Each IU Merchant will need to determine the best means of tracking and fulfilling orders. Customization beyond the generalized options provided by the e-Commerce Operational team (comprised of staff from UITS, FMS Auxiliary Accounting, and Office of the Treasurer) will be up to the IU Merchant. Procedures should be developed by the IU merchant for secure use of the VeriSign Manager.
